The Waukee City Council recently approved an ordinance that allows Waukee homeowners to have up to six female chickens for noncommercial use. Roosters are not allowed. The hens must be kept in an enclosed area, and at night must be in a henhouse or chicken tractor. Residents who want to raise chickens must complete online training before applying for a $25 annual permit.
