Waukee schools Superintendent Cindi McDonald has resigned effective at the end of the school year after a state audit uncovered questionable financial dealings at the district, the district reported. The Waukee School Board on Monday will vote on whether to approve the resignation, and plans to start a search for McDonald’s successor within a few weeks. In a news release, McDonald characterized her departure as retirement. The state audit reported questionable spending on out-of-state retreats, misuse of district credit cards, and violations of district policies. Eric Rose, the district’s onetime chief operating officer, resigned and has been charged with criminal offenses after being accused of altering employee time cards, using school property at home and seeking donations from vendors for his son’s hockey team, the Des Moines Register reported.
