Jim Weber, chief financial officer of Hubbell Realty Co., has been selected by the Business Record as the Deloitte CFO of the Year.

Weber joined Hubbell Realty in October 2005 and played an integral role in helping the firm to survive the real estate downturn and to position itself for future success.

The award will be presented at the Business Record’s Economic Forecast luncheon on Jan. 29. Register now>>>

As chief financial officer, Weber provides strategic leadership, planning and oversight of the financial resources of Hubbell Realty and its subsidiaries. He leads all planning, development and implementation of financial policies relative to accounting, tax, internal controls and systems.

Weber’s leadership has enabled Hubbell Realty to maintain excellent borrowing relationships with its lending partners, and to actually expand these sources of credit. His experience and creativity have also allowed Hubbell Realty to complete many projects using funding sources such as tax increment finance and tax credits.

“I am very proud of Jim Weber and his accomplishments,” Hubbell Realty’s CEO, Rick Tollakson, said in a nomination letter. “He continues to excel during some of the most difficult financial times our firm has experienced, and his efforts have helped guide us successfully through those challenges.”

One example of Weber’s acumen: In 2007, he played a key role in executing one of the largest real estate transactions in Iowa, an approximately $100 million real estate acquisition that included 1,688 apartment units in Des Moines and Sioux Falls, S.D. Those properties now generate more than $600,000 in annual property management fees for Hubbell Realty. In 2012, Weber led a refinancing transaction for the portfolio that generated additional cash flow of $700,000 per year.

Prior to joining Hubbell Realty, Weber was CFO and chief counsel for R&R Realty for 18 years, and earlier worked as a tax manager with Schlumberger Ltd. He began his accounting career with Deloitte after earning a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Marquette University and a law degree from Drake University.
