The Wellmark Foundation awarded 30 Iowa organizations Small Matching Assets to Community Health (MATCH) grants, cumulatively granting more than $560,000. Among local projects receiving grants is the Birdland Neighborhood Pocket Trail being led by Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, which received $25,000 for the project. The city of Pleasant Hill also received $25,000 for phase one of Hickory Glen Park. Each of the grant recipients submitted projects that can help individuals, families and communities achieve better health through safe and healthy environments that encourage physical activity or access to and the consumption of nutritious foods; each recipient was challenged to match the grant.
