Nearly 90,000 Iowans who bought individual health policies from Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield prior to 2014 can expect much lower premium increases next year, The Des Moines Register reported. The proposed 6 percent increase for those so-called grandfathered and grandmothered policies are much less than the 38 to 43 percent increases Wellmark proposed last month for 30,000 Iowans who purchased newer health policies. For Wellmark customers who obtain their insurance through their employers, premiums are expected to increase between 7 and 12 percent, a Wellmark spokeswoman said.
