Des Moines Public Library business book pick: “The Longevity Imperative,” by Andrew Scott
Why you should read it: This 2024 bestseller serves as a manifesto for individuals, institutions, and society overall to adapt to the new reality that comes with living longer lives. It argues that modern society is not currently structured to support the longer lifespans that come with increases in medicine and technology. But Scott argues that rather than thinking solely in terms of the needs of the elderly, society should be supporting young and middle-aged people to better prepare for their longer futures through innovations in health systems, the economy and financial sectors, as well as how we manage careers, relationships and more.
