WalletHub evaluated 54 metrics — Des Moines ranked No. 1 in unemployment rate, No. 3 in percentage of state, local and federal employees, and No. 4 in housing affordability. It ranked below the fold in number of attractions, placing at 27th, and in average weekly hours worked, where it placed 30th.
Its other rankings were No. 14 for median household income, No. 16 for health conditions, No. 23 for percentage of millennial newcomers, and No. 25 for percentage of the population living in poverty.
Austin, Texas, is state capital No. 1, according to WalletHub, followed by Boise, Idaho, at No. 2. Other Midwest capitals in the top 10 are Madison, Wis., Lincoln, Neb., and Bismarck, N.D. Read more here.
