Joe and Nicki Romare, owners of Whiskey River in Ames and Founders Irish Pub in Bondurant, plan to open a restaurant, bar and reception hall in the District area of Prairie Trail in Ankeny, according to a release. Whiskey River bar and restaurant will have two patios, including a large rooftop patio. A garage door will open up the main restaurant to the ground-level patio. The new building will house a reception hall called The District Venue that will accommodate up to 300 people attending wedding receptions, corporate events and community events. The District Venue will offer a full bar and in-house catering. Construction will begin this fall on the 13,000-square-foot building at the corner of Vintage Parkway and Southwest Merchant Street, with an opening expected for late 2016. Construction costs are estimated at about $3 million. The building will feature industrial ceilings and steel trusses. “It’s a place where you can get comfortable,” Nicki Romare said in the release. Other businesses that have opened in The District are Jethro’s, Fong’s, Fitness World, Blonde Genius, Matilda Muse and Simpson College. Another restaurant, District 36, also will open.
