A bright and sunny day is forecast today as Central Iowans face uncertain power and a long cleanup list after Monday’s fast-moving windstorm.

As of 7 a.m., Poweroutage.us reported 77,845 Polk County residents were still without power; statewide, 403,066 customers out of the 1.4 million tracked by the website were still without power.

Boone, Story, Marshall and Jasper counties are reporting high percentages of residents without power in Central Iowa, with at least 60% of residents in Boone, Story and Jasper counties waiting to regain power. In Marshall County, 16,607 residents out of 17,033 reporting residents report power outage. Damage in Marshalltown is similar to the catastrophic damage sustained a little more than two years ago when an EF3 tornado swept through the town, city officials said.

KCCI: In Ames, at least 25% of residents have their power restored this morning, and the city said via Twitter that other residents should see power restored later today. Hotels are booking up as MidAmerican is reporting it could take a few days to restore power in some regions. MidAmerican said it has requested assistance from 2,000 people in other parts of the Midwest to come to Iowa, but receiving that assistance could be a problem as other states are seeing widespread damage.

DES MOINES REGISTER: The Iowa State Patrol is reporting at least 10 tractor-trailers overturned on Iowa interstates due to strong winds, including one overturned trailer carrying 850 pigs, which blocked northbound and southbound lanes on Interstate 35 for several hours Monday afternoon. The interstate is now open. At peak outage, MidAmerican Energy reported more than 131,000 customers in Central Iowa had been without power.

THE WEATHER CHANNEL: More than 1 million homes and businesses in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana are without power after Monday’s derecho wind storm, which traveled approximately 770 miles in 14 hours.
