World Food Prize awards Borlaug Medallion to Vilsack
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack received the Norman E. Borlaug Medallion today in a ceremony led by World Food Prize Foundation President Kenneth Quinn. Quinn said the award was to “honor the U.S. Department of Agriculture for its extraordinary development and promotion of American farming for over 150 years. At the ceremony, Vilsack and Quinn also signed a pact that extends the Wallace-Carver Fellowship program through 2021. Since 2011, 151 students have served as Wallace-Carver Fellows, giving them a chance to work on field- and laboratory-based research, analyze policies and help manage food, nutrition, rural development and environmental conservation programs.
