The World Food Prize Foundation announced today that Ellen Franzenburg has been appointed as director of secretariat operations. In that position, Franzenburg will facilitate the World Food Prize Laureate and the Norman E. Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application nomination processes and work with World Food Prize leaders to plan the annual Laureate Announcement Ceremony and Borlaug Dialogue International Symposium. Franzenburg replaces Judith Pim, who retired from the foundation on May 31 after 18 years of service. Franzenburg attended the organization’s Global Youth Institute in 2007 and 2008 as a high school student, and was selected to research with the World Vegetable Center in Taiwan as a 2009 Borlaug-Ruan Intern. She later worked as a 2013 Wallace-Carver Intern and served in the World Food Prize Volunteer Corps from 2014 to 2017. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in agricultural engineering and global resource systems and studied abroad in Uganda, Italy and Brazil.
