World Food Prize goes to poverty fighter from Bangladesh

Fazle Hasan Abed of Bangladesh, founder and chairperson of an anti-poverty organization, has been named this year’s World Food Prize Laureate. Fazle, who was knighted by the British Crown in 2009, has led BRAC, formerly the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, as it worked to assist 150 million people working to overcome poverty. He pioneered a new approach to development by melding scalable development models, scientific innovation, and local participation. Read more
