Congressman David Young will join small-business owners in Des Moines on Friday for a roundtable discussion about the federal health insurance tax and its impact on Iowa small businesses and their employees. Young supports the Stop the HIT CoalitionThe HIT, as the tax is termed by the coalition, took effect as part of the Affordable Care Act. Young said in a release that it drives up the costs of health care plans purchased in the fully insured market by as much as $500 per family annually, creating a substantial burden for the 88 percent of small businesses that buy those policies. The Republican representative will discuss his co-sponsorship of H.R. 928, a bipartisan bill in the House that would repeal the tax. The roundtable will be at 2 p.m. at the Iowa Motor Truck Association, 717 E. Court Ave. Reservations are requested by contacting Ashley Hunt atahunt@ls2group.com or 515-505-0459.
