Younkers is back — but no mention of stores returning to Iowa

Younkers shoppers may be heartened to hear the legendary department store is returning to life under new management — but there are no plans yet to reopen any of the chain’s brick-and-mortar stores that were closed in August, and the company’s new president reports the Younkers name may not be online for long. Younkers relaunched online with a letter posted by Jordan Voloshin, new president of Bon-Ton Holdings Inc. under CSC Generation, an online retail company with offices in Texas, California, Indiana and Canada. In a Q&A posted today with USA Today, Voloshin said that Bon-Ton will focus on reopening stores under brands Bon-Ton, Carson’s, Herberger’s and the Boston Store, but that Younkers and Elder-Beerman “will likely be online only for the first couple of months.” USA Today previously reported that some Bon-Ton storefronts may be reopened in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, though Voloshin did not comment on CSC Generation’s storefront plans. On its website, CSC Generation advertises, “We are a decentralized, multi-brand technology platform that is saving companies from Amazon.”
