The Waukee City Council has agreed to a zoning change and planned development overlay for roughly 15 acres at Hickman Road and Westgate Drive that clears the way for Fridley Theatres’ Imax movie theater. The zoning change allowed for construction of a 65,000-square-foot-building, while the planned development overlay will allow for a building 75 feet tall to accommodate the Imax screen. In all, the theater complex, called the Palms, will have 15 screens. The theater will be located on the northwest corner of the parcel and will be fronted by lots that are now planned for commercial buildings. The City Council will consider a site plan at its Dec. 18 meeting.
