In the past year, the Business Record reported on an array of commercial real estate-related news including the proposed opening of a Toppling Goliath tap room in the Drake neighborhood, development progress of Topgolf in West Des Moines and a mixed-use development planned in Huxley. Below are the five stories that received the most clicks by Business Record readers:

  • Wells Fargo lists 5 downtown Des Moines properties for saleIn January, Wells Fargo announced that a large number of its downtown workers would move to the company’s Jordan Creek campus in West Des Moines. A few weeks later, the financial services company listed five of its downtown properties for sale.
  • New ‘competitive socializing’ venue planned for WDM: Information about Putts & Pins, a combination bar, restaurant and recreation facility with indoor miniature golf and duckpin bowling games, was released. The venue near Jordan Creek Town Center opened in November.
  • Endangered buildings in Des Moines: The Des Moines Heritage Trust last summer released a list of seven “endangered buildings” in Des Moines.
  • $350 million mixed-use development planned for Waukee: Dickson Jensen, a developer who lives in Ames, announced plans for Kettlestone Central Sports Complex, a $350 million development planned on 160 acres in Waukee. The development is expected to include over 1,000 residential dwellings, restaurants, bars, retail shops, hotels and other commercial offerings, as well as two fieldhouses.
  • Former nuisance property has new life: Randy Reichardt had a goal in mind during the restoration of a building at 515 28th St.: Make the nearly century-old brick structure as warm and welcoming as possible. “I think we achieved that,” said Reichardt, who acquired the property in November 2020. More than $2.5 million in renovations were made to the building.
