Travel marketing firm must change practices
Ambassadors Group Inc., the marketing company for People to People International, has agreed to change the marketing of travel programs in Iowa in compliance with the Iowa Consumer Fraud Act, Attorney General Tom Miller announced yesterday.
The for-profit company ran into trouble when it sent marketing materials to students suggesting that the governor is actively involved in selecting recipients of travel offers, causing concern for Miller.
“Parents who normally would not or could not pay several thousand dollars for these trips may feel pressured to sign up simply because of the way they have been marketed,” he said in a press release.
As part of the agreement, Ambassadors Group will pay the state $50,000 to be used in the Consumer Fraud Enforcement Fund.
