The Greater Des Moines Partnership has launched a new global trade strategy this year. It is working with the Brookings Institution and JPMorgan Chase after a study showed Greater Des Moines lagging in foreign investment. The metro ranks 19th among 20 peers in foreign direct investment employment. Among the 100 largest metro areas, Greater Des Moines ranks 81st in jobs and 78th in share of employment involving foreign-owned enterprises. The International Trade Administration reports that 4.2 percent of Iowa’s private employment involved foreign investment in 2013; the national average was 5.5 percent.
